GR 282 and GR 284

GR 282 (Grazing Trail)

485 KM - 19 stages

GR 282, the Camino Natural del Pastoreo, or Grazing Trail, passes by the municipality of Orduña coming from Burgos, crossing the Sierra Sálvada ridge.

On the high ground of the Castilian plateau and the slopes of the ridge there are woods of beech and gall oak, as well as open pastureland where herds of livestock graze, creating beautiful pastoral scenes.

The traditional activity of taking animals to graze is what gives the name to the highest parts of stages 5 (IZARRA-VILLALBA DE LOSA) and 6 (VILLALBA DE LOSA-BÓVEDA) of the GR-282, the Grazing Trail.

GR 284 (the Royal Way of La Sopeña)

66 KM - 2 + 2 stages

The Camino Real de la Sopeña, or Royal Way of La Sopeña, the GR 284, is a historical thoroughfare that was used for centuries by traders, merchants and muleteers travelling from the Mena Valley north towards the sea. It starts at the medieval town of Orduña and winds its way through woods and meadows, passing villages with their rich ethnographic and historical heritage, to finally reach its destination: the lovely town of Artzeniega.

This option can also include two extra stages, starting the third in Amurrio, finishing in Oletar, and from there the fourth stage takes the walker to the heights of the Sierra Sálvada, passing through pastureland and climbing Txarlazo before descending into Orduña along what was once another major thoroughfare.
